Krav Maga Self Defense Techniques : Straight Punch Techniques for Krav Maga

Best self-defense martial art for men and women

In choosing a style of martial art to practice for their defense is a number of combat arts that have been modified to accommodate the terms of the fans who attend the schools of martial arts and self defense seminars. most of these programs are configured in a hurry to meet the demand and consequently are not suitable for real life defending himself.
Below is a list of family of martial arts that are best suited for those who want to learn self-defense. If you are interested in taking martial arts so you can learn self-defense and get your body in fighting shape of these styles of martial arts is best for you to consider.
Karate Sport: Sport carat is a popular style of karate in America. It is a mixture of several different martial arts styles traditional to make a consistent style. Because this sport has very attractive, self-defense component has been included and has become very appropriate for this mixture of martial arts.

Aikido: It is a traditional martial art withself defense that developed in the mind. This style of martial art focuses on teaching using a Enegy attackers against him. In aikido you learn how to redirect an attack against you rather than trying to stop it with brute force.
Aikido is a Japanese martial art founded by Ueshiba Morehei defensively. Although relatively modern, based on much older ju-jutsu techniques and principles of Japanese swordsmanship. The art is characterized by its mix and circular movements, which are used to set or pull. Unlike judo, not a sport so it will never win anything, and, unlike karate, we are short or punch.

Judo: is primarily a training system physical and mental designed to develop the mind and body to the fullest extent.
Judo is both a martial art and Olympic sport that focuses on launching and struggling techniques. It includes both the practice of kata (pre-arranged forms) and randori (sparring). Freedom of randori allows great flexibility of movement when the application a full range of techniques that include launch, pins, joint locks and choke. There is no better martial arts to develop overall strength and balance.

Kung Fu: kung fu training using chi kung to develop inner strength and mental balance, even in the face of danger, if the students have patience and time to learn and master the art of chi kung kung fu using this is more effective as a practical self-defense, because with the domain of mental balance, even in the face of an attack, first calm the attacker restless and make sure to act accordingly.

Aikijutsu
Above Aikijutsu many centuries has proved very effective self defense system used by the samurai in ancient Japan to fight close combat, use of motion Aikijutsu the opponent or of intention to submit them usually through manipulation and joining projection techniques makes it useful in the present conditions.
For a defense grounded in martial arts I enter the Academy Aikijutsu and join his comrades, as the captain of the act of self defense.

Excellent Book and Supplement to Training

by Dennis from on 2010-08-05
After trying out a few martial arts and settling on Krav Maga I've been emersed in the history and practice of it. I belong to a Krav Maga Worldwide affiliated facility and I can tell you our instructor is the REAL DEAL. There are some mixed emotions on Krav Maga, but no one can deny that if you have a good instructor that's all that matters. My instructer follows close to the curriculum in the book not jumping ahead until you really master the fundamentals, but also getting you into Krav Maga all in from the get go.This is a must to supplement your training. The book clearly breaks down various techniques and the curriculum for each level tested in a KMWW center. Also if you doubt the crediblility of the KMWW check out a testing session. The last level 3 lasted 4 four hours and was as hardcore as it gets. I for one don't believe that you can really do Krav Maga without instruction and sparring sessions. While I do like the books of David Kahn, they really don't compare from showing you illistations to full photographs on each page on this book. The other books I strongly reccomend with this one would be Boaz's or of course the one Imi contributed too.

basis for a good workout

by macroboy from on 2010-06-26
This book will allow you to learn some worthwile techniques if you apply yourself to the rigor that any martial art demands. If you are interested in learning some of this style, and it is worth learning, this book will get you on your way.

Good but not great.

by F. Ortiz from Los Angeles, CA USA on 2010-05-21
I purchased this book out of curiosity of what other techniques were at the higher levels being that I am still a few years off from seeing. I have trained KM for about a year now at kravmagaLA ([...]) and I found this book to maintain some of the basic principles but I would have to dock points for some watered down techniques and some impractical balance of techniques. When I noticed the book was written by the krav maga instructors from Krav Maga Worldwide that's what lead me to my conclusion. I have not trained at KravMaga worldwide facilities but I know enough to know they are a bit lacking on technique at times. Students from their dojo would come in to where I would train and said to have had a belt or two more experience than others and well to my surprise they were really lacking, in technique and general knowledge. I only say this about KMWW because they are the ones that put out this book, and those who see only this kind of KM need to know that it's not completely authentic and seems a bit more watered down, maybe because they are a little more corporate?...I did find the book of some help however in terms of it's concepts with the color photos and step by step analysis, but as I mentioned I really don't see all of them practically applicable in a self defense scenario. They are their own governing body and don't really report to KM taught in Israel by the IDF.

Great book on self-defense

by Jujitsu enthusiest from on 2010-05-12
This is a very good book on the techniques and combatives involved in self-defense. It uses a relatively small syllabus of moves that can be used in many different defense situations. It is the fighting style of the Israeli Defense Forces, and everyone knows how good the Israelis are at self-preservation, they have fought many wars and won. According to the author the techniques are easy to remember and execute without having to take refresher courses all the time. It has similarities to Japanese and Brazilian Jujitsu, Karate, and Wrestling. I like the book a lot, and I would recommend it to anyone, or any martial artist of any style.

great supplement to training

by Michael Napier from ky on 2010-03-28
Simple. this is a great, supplement to hands on training (which no book or video can replace). Only a very experienced martial artist should attempt to gain knowledge from this book without hands on instuction. My back ground is in law enforcement and World Wide Krav Maga techniques have been field tested by my collegues and me.

Description

U.S. Army Special Forces veteran Larry Jordan was given a unique assignment by his commanders - come up with a truly down-and-dirty hand-to-hand fighting system for his fellow Green Berets and U.S. Army Rangers. The goal of this system was to give soldiers a handful of hard-core techniques that could be easily learned, easily mastered and effectively applied in any close-combat situation. Jordan devised a set of 12 techniques that were surprisingly simple, shockingly fast and brutally effective. He has now adapted this military system for civilian self-defense. He calls it "The Dirty Dozen." The 12 self-defense lessons in this book are specifically designed to provide the average citizen with a series of easily learned techniques that will enable him or her to prevail in any violent situation. Besides the ever-present threat of violent crime, the recent terrorist attacks aboard commercial airliners show that people can no longer rely on "somebody else" to protect them. Preparing to resist and defeat evildoers is everyone's responsibility now. That's where The Dirty Dozen comes in.

Nasty: This book lives up to its name

by Eagle Vision from Southeastern United States on 2010-07-13
This title is a good introduction to situational awareness and insight into the necessary mindset to protect yourself. Self protection and the proper preparation will arm the reader with some simple but dangerous strikes. The Kindle version contains black and white photographs to demonstrate simple techniques. Techniques, unlike formal martial arts, are easy enough to follow for anyone of any size or fitness level. Attacks and counterattacks in the seated, standing and on the ground positions have wide applications. My favorite section covers the high yield areas to strike in the front and back of a person's anatomy for incapacitation. Although not comprehensive or extensive, the knowledge will empower you and give you a "no holes barred" approach.

Good addition to training

by Scott W. Glasgow from Seattle, WA on 2010-03-13
This book is a very good read, whether you are involved in a self defense class or not. It adds to your knowledge base and will help with technique especially if you're involved in a self defense class. I recommend this book

Not for the queasy

by Sword1131 from Flathead Lake, Montana on 2009-08-09
The techniques he demonstrates are easy to learn and probably nothing new for anyone with hard-style martial arts training. What is different is his approach to using them and I agree with him. Forget the fancy dancy dojo/dojang stuff if you are planning to use it. I'm adding his basics to my martial arts journal. The last couple of techniques are simple but I wouldn't want to have to use them, the thought of squishing, popping eyeballs is a little much for me but if it's life or death? He also covers the necessary changes in how you look at situations very well. Read this book, practice the techniques solo if need be, you will have a fighting chance with them.

12 techniques to save your life

by Richard Lavergne from on 2009-07-10
All I can say is WOW! The techniques in this book are great, and easy to learn, and whats more, they do appear to help you survive "any" type of situation, great for men and women, I hightly recommend it to the women, great techniques for surviving rape attemps or just warding off total jerks that won't leave you alone, or even a attempted car jacking, its great for everyone, easy to read, great illustrations and photos, and its small enough to carry with you anywhere for reading, but highly packed with some "Nasty fighting techniques"

Not that great

by Henry Nguyen from on 2009-04-27
The techniques presented in this book are simple, easy to learn, and would seem to be very effective. However, the actual techniques take only a few pages to explain and it seems as if the rest of the book is just filler to justify the price of the book. This book would be worth borrowing from the library, but not worth purchasing. Most of the techniques simply rely on grabbing the opponent's hair and striking vital areas such as the throat, side of the neck, eyes, or temple.

Is Defensive Tactics on your bookshelf ?- Should be.!

by R. Cross from Danville, Pa. on 2009-11-22
This is the very best; most practical text on Defensive Tactics I have ever seen. The author is a been there and done that (for real) instructor. You can tell that he wants to make sure everyone goes home at the end of his /her shift. Excellent!!!

An excellent reference source for police officers and defensive tactics instructors.

by Joseph J. Truncale from Chicago, Il on 2009-09-03
Having had the pleasure of reviewing numerous books and videos of Loren Christensen, I found this book to be an excellent reference source and review of the many techniques I have been teaching officers for more than forty years. This book is comprehensive in scope and the photographs are clear and easy to follow. I do not think just reading this book alone without real hands-on training is the best way to learn the material. However, if you are a police officer who has had the basic police defensive tactics course, this book will provide a good review to reenforce the material learned in class. In conclusion, this is a book every police defensive tactics instructor and those who are also involved in teaching law enforcement should have as a resource text. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Monadnock Defensive Tactics (MDTS) System, Use of the Monadnock Straight Baton, PR-24 Police Baton Advanced Techniques, Martial Art Myths, Never Trust a Politician, Knife Handling and Knife Defense Course Manual).

Not my favorit

by S. Kite from OK on 2009-05-25
I have been reading a number of books since I joined the department and this was not my favorit. This book might be better suited to those that have not gone through defensive tacticks (DT) yet. Having already done DT nothing that this book introduced was new. I also found that the book during its instructions of the moves did not acount for any resistance on the part of the suspect or it jumped a few steps. It did make me aware of some things that I had not thought of before and gave perspective in other areas as well. The book was not my favorit but I did benifit from it but would only highly recommend it to a person that has not been through DT yet.

Defensive Tactics

by Eric Bills from Ohio on 2009-03-18
Loren Christiansen has always written great books on Defensive Tactics for police professionals. In this book he again scores with another good one on various techniques easily learned and employed to defend oneself and control a subject.

Great overview

by T. Hansen from Cleveland, OH USA on 2008-06-22
This book provides a great overview of simple DT moves and how to employ them. I found it to be easy to read and follow along with the instructions. The pictures in the text were clear and understandable and matched the descriptions given in the text. I enjoyed the text very much and thought it was a good book.

Valuable Book for a Woman

by Tax Writer from Maui on 2009-12-24
I am a petite woman and not used to defending myself physically but I believe that basic self-defense skills are important. Now that I have kids I am more concerned with the possibility of carjacking or something equally horrible, and I don't carry a firearm, although sometimes I go through some really bad neighborhoods and I wish I did.I felt that this book was well-written and an easy read. The illustrations are good, as well as the section about "spotting trouble". This book may seem remedial to anyone who has actual marital arts training, but I thought it was really good for me.I only have one gripe. I felt that the font was BIG, almost like the author was trying to fill up space in some places. But I still think that it was worth the purchase price.

Not great but not bad...

by Jose C. Amram from altamonte spgs, fl United States on 2008-12-23
The negative reviewers make very good points, specially using eye gouges in less than life threatening situations, etc. All that notwithstanding, the book has very good information built on solid combatives and one can get quite a bit of worthy material from it. Like any guidebook, it cannot cover ALL possible scenarios. I take exception with the multiple elbows thrown as weapons. Their reach is short and I doubt the efficacy of them as opening or even secondary strikes. These are great and solid weapons when used in extreme short range. In closing, a pretty good addition to a serious combatives student's library.

Complete Guide To Unarmed Combat Techniques? Not Even Close! A Very Basic Guide For The Same? Yes!

by Shawn Kovacich from The Greatest Little City in the World on 2008-10-20
Well, I better start off this review by stating that I was fortunate enough to have been able to read through this book without having to purchase it first, and I am very glad about that. Not that this is a horrible book by any means, but it really didn't live up to its title and actually you could make the case for blatant misrepresentation.I mean really now, any book that states that it is the "Complete" or "Ultimate" or even "Bible" had better be able to live up to the title. The vast majority never even come close, and I only know of a few that do, and those don't even use those statements in their title. Doesn't that tell you something?Anyway, there is some very good basic information in this book but I felt that it was way too brief in a lot of important areas. I think the author could have provided a lot more detailed explanations in these areas and it would have improved the book tremendously.Another detractor for me was the lack of photographs to help show the different techniques the author was trying to explain. However, I thought that the large illustrations in the book were very well done and showed the techniques quite well.Overall I was pretty disappointed in this book and it really is a shame as the author if obviously very knowledgeable and has written some other books that were quite outstanding. Perhaps he should consider putting out a revised edition that corrects the inadequacies of this one.If I had purchased this book, I would have been a bit upset that I had spent money on it.If you are looking for some good books on self-defense, I would recommend taking a look at some of these that I have listed here.Cheap Shots, Ambushes, And Other Lessons: A Down And Dirty Book On Streetfighting & SurvivalFists, Wits, And A Wicked Right: Surviving On The Wild Side Of The StreetViolence, Blunders, And Fractured Jaws: Advanced Awareness Techniques And Street EtiquetteSurviving Armed Assaults: A Martial Artists Guide to Weapons, Street Violence, and Countervailing ForceJust to name a few!Shawn Kovacich Martial Artist/Author of the Achieving Kicking Excellence series.

Excellent Primer For Civilian Combatants

by Christopher C. Coughlin from WA. USA on 2008-06-10
I purchased this title for a civilian friend of mine who was interested in the unarmed combat techniques I was taught while serving with this Regiment in Rhodesia during the 1970's. While I agree with another reviewer that remarked that the laws in The United States and Great Britain (where I also served during the Faulklands campain with The 3rd Para) are rather draconian with respect to self-defense, the book is very informative regarding the basic tactics and pressure points of the human frame, i.e. body, and is indeed a wonderful primer for the lay-man.A small bit of inside information regarding The Regiment: Unlike the films, which portray every fighting soldier as 6'4" 280lbs, the average height and weight of a member of the SAS and The Parachute Regiment is 5'7" 150lbs, only showing that it is not size that determines a man or woman's strength but their Will to Survive, Endurance and Skill in unarmed combat that determine the outcome of any situation. My Instructor was a 5'2" 48y.o. man who had jumped with The Regiment in the jungles of Malaya (today Malaysia) and I feared him more than any of our oppenants during the war in Rhodesia! To my fellow American Service Veterans whose reviews are listed and speak disparagingly of this book: "Get Buggered!" The Regiment pre-dates The Green Berets, DELTA and Navy SEALS by nearly 20 years and most of the techniques they were taught were offered by The Regiment to it's American Cousins during their formation. And we are still in close contact with these units to this day in the area of COIN Operations. Those who Brag Don't Do. Those who Do Don't Brag! Who Dares Wins! And finally, to all my Mates, those who have past and those of us who remain, "Peter sends his regards and he'll be seeing you soon."

dissappointing

by B. Wilson from florida on 2008-04-12
this book is dated. Since it was written so long ago it just feels like old material. Most of it was common sense. Only about two or three techniques were good. Buy a different book.
