Literally Loaded With Lots of Great Information

I have successfully run several different martial arts schools over the years and was a little apprehensive about purchasing this book because I felt that I already knew how to run a martial arts school. So I never did pick up this book when I first saw it a few years ago. And then about two months ago, I ran across this book again in a used book store and decided to spend the couple of bucks they were asking for it. Note that I still felt that I knew how to run a successful martial arts school.Well after purchasing this book I took it home where it sat for several weeks before I finally decided to open it up and take a look at it. Now I am sitting here writing this review in hopes that I may be able to have some impact on another person such as myself who may be thinking that already know how to run a martial arts school and therefore may tend to disregard this book. It would be a very profound mistake! Trust me, I did and then I realized after reading this book that I may have run successful martial arts schools, but I could have run them even better had I read this book years ago (if it had been available at that time).I am on the verge of opening up another school after semi-retiring for a few years and I am glad that I picked up this book and read it before I really got started getting everything put together. Now I admit that I knew a lot of the information that is contained in this book, but I will also admit that there was also a lot of information in this book that I didn't know, or didn't know as well as I should have. Needless to say, I am very glad that I read this book and I am really looking forward to implementing a lot of the things I learned in it.Is this book perfect? Of course not! A lot of what the authors tell you in this book will probably not sit well with a lot of us more traditional martial artists, but if you take what they tell you and modify it accordingly to fit your own specific needs, then you will no doubt be a lot further ahead than if you simply ignored this information.Now I could go into all the specific areas that are discussed in this book, or I could simply tell you that pretty much everything you need to know from A to Z about starting and running a martial arts school is included in this book. I think I will take the latter.Here are three other fantastic books that I would recommend to any and all instructors regardless of the particular martial arts style that you are teaching, and those books are Martial Arts Instruction: Applying Educational Theory and Communication Techniques In the Dojo, The Way of Kata: A Comprehensive Guide for Deciphering Martial Applications, and The Way to Black Belt: A Comprehensive Guide to Rapid, Rock-Solid Results all written by Lawrence Kane and Kris Wilder.Shawn Kovacich Martial Artist/Author of the Achieving Kicking Excellence series.

Fantastic Book

This is the best book I've read about starting and maintaining a martial arts studio. The author breaks everything down in easy-to-understand language especially for those of us who have been kicked in the head before. She encourages the reader to start at any chapter that is applicable to them to ensure that this book is applicable not only to new startups but those who are looking for new ideas.The book is filled with new ideas for operating your school as a business without turning it into a belt-factory (Extremely important in my view)!! I highly recommend this book to all who have a dream of opening their own studio some day.

Basic Business Book

Much of the book is about business basics. If you took out the word "martial arts" you could replace it with just about any other business. For what it is, the book is well worth the purchase price.

They are great for slight parkour

I bought them for parkour, and the grip is very good. But, these are not generally good for a lot of running since they have literally no support. I tried putting a support insole, but since the shoe is too low, and also i got a size bigger the insole pushed my foot out. I got size 44 because im 9.5, but it was a little big. I would have gotten a 43, but they didnt have it in stock. I tied the shoelaces tight and put a thin insole in, and it worked. So I would recommend it for parkour, but with an insole, and dont run or jog too much in these because you WILL DESTROY your ankles. Also, a little hard to get used to since it has a ball shaped outsole. But worth checking out since they are cheap. Be careful about the size though.

I love these shoes! They're soft and comfy and I wear them EVERYWHERE. I got them to do Tai Chi but found myself wearing them all around. They're snug to my feet but flexible and the sole are extra grippy.

Truly a magical experience

What started out as a way to kill a saturday night has truly changed my life. I thought a couple of Natty Lights and an old VHS would be the high point of the weekend, and then i was transported to a magical world of positive energy and ninja skills. This video is not just for children! It can unlock the treasure chest of golden dragon that waits inside each of you! I now have a lifes purpose and the watermelons of the world do not stand a chance now that i have unlocked my non-violent positve energy that can slice through them like a flaming hawk! I really couldn't believe I bought this video. Based on the reviews it sounded pretty good. Well, as an experienced martial artist and instructor (40+ years)I have to say that this video is a bad joke. It is the most ridiculous piece of junk I've ever viewed. The best advice for children offered up in this cartoon is to 'run away.' Sound advice yes-- but the rest of the content is pure junk. Don't waste a penny on this one. Take your children to a dojo but realize that any child will be hard pressed to perform the techniques they will learn. Teach them to be aware of their surroundings. The best defense for a child? Run and scream.This video is bad. Period.

A little silly

My five year old son thought this was a little silly. There's a lot of singing and not much instruction about how to do karate. He watched it once and did not enjoy it at all. We returned it and got him Kung Fu Panda instead. He enjoys fighting along with the Furious Five.

My son is 4.5 and goes to Karate. He loved this video. It is also very good for kids who don't do Karate as it shows them how to handle bullys and also their anger. Highly recommended.
