Perfect Options for a Perfect Price

by Christopher Brent Payne from Texas on 2010-02-18
I recently ordered a McNett Saturna blunt tip knife for my PFD and did some testing on it today. All I can say is wow!It has a serrated edge, a straight edge, a blunt wedge for a nose, thumb and finger grip, locking multi directional sheath and can be utilized with one hand. I bought it from Amazon.com for $16 and shipping was free with a promo. Both sides cut well and tried to push through and cut with the blunt tip and it wont do it. I was able to unsheath it left or right handed regardless of which direction it was facing. It is made from 420 Stainless Steel and has eyes on the sheath and knife for securing if needed. I wont be using this as a bait knife but reckon it would do fine with that too. The sheath is made from Kydex and has a nylon molded handle. These come in black, orange and yellow. Well worth the $16 if you ask me.

View larger. Versatile, User-Friendly Design A sharp blade makes it easier to get work done quickly and safely. The innovative AccuSharp Knife Sharpener lets you sharpen most blades in around ten seconds. Sharpening is oil- and mess-free, and it doesn't require guessing at angles or handling rough, awkward stones. This sharpener's easy-to-use design makes it a great tool to have on hand in professional and personal kitchens, as well as an easy choice for hunters, fishermen and women, gardeners, and craftspeople. Featuring a unique, ergonomic handle, the AccuSharp fits neatly in either hand to accommodate both right- and left-handed users, and it includes a full-length guard that protects your fingers throughout the sharpening process. Fast, Effective Sharpening To get started sharpening, you simply place your knife on a table or counter top with the cutting edge up. Hold the knife handle securely with one hand. Then let the "V" notch on the sharpener straddle the blade, and use your thumb to apply light pressure as you draw the AccuSharp down past the point of the blade. When you first use the AccuSharp on a blade, several passes may be required to make sure that your knife's cutting angle conforms to the AccuSharp angle. But once that angle is achieved the first time, it should take just two or three brief passes to put a sharp edge back on your knife--which means that sharpening fits into your busy schedule instead of interfering with it. Dependable, Long-Lasting Construction To deliver years of reliable use, AccuSharp sharpening blades are crafted from diamond-honed tungsten carbide, one of the hardest known materials. And because even the toughest industrial-quality blades eventually begin to show wear, AccuSharp's unique design allows you to reverse the blade to double its life span. Most users report an average of five to 10 years between blade replacements, which means that it's easy to ensure that your sharpener will be ready to go when you need it. AccuSharp Knife Sharpeners will not rust, and they can be cleaned easily with soap and water or in your dishwasher. What's in the Box AccuSharp 001 Knife Sharpener

Features

  • Sharpens your knives quickly, easily and accurately
  • Just draw the AccuSharp over the tool and your work gets easier

Great purchase

by lorra from on 2010-08-31
For under 10 dollars I was easily able to sharpen my very nice knives. It normally costs me about 75 dollars to get a good edge back on my 11 knives. This handy little sharpener is well worth the money. I bought 2 so I could give one to my daughter.

Not as good as its reputation, won't give you a razor's edge

by J. Williamson from Huntington, WV USA on 2010-08-31
I've hand-sharpened knives for 25 or so years now, and have tried nearly every sharpening system and sharpening materials out there. In all of my considerable experience (sorry if that sounds a bit cocky), nothing beats hand-sharpening on flat whetstones that have a high grit, or using a leather strop with jeweler's rouge to polish up an edge to a glass smooth, super razor sharp edge.I kept hearing such wonderful things from people about how good of a sharpener this AccuSharp 001 knife sharpener is, so I decided, since I really like to have very sharp knives, to give it a try. I own several other sharpeners like this, both in design and in material (tungsten carbide), and have never been satisfied with the edge they produce. Before purchasing this product, probably the best I had tried before were sharpeners like the Smith Abrasives, Inc. PP1 Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener, which has both a tungsten carbide sharpener to quickly get a semi-sharp edge, and also a ceramic bladed sharpener to finish, or "polish" the edge into sharpness. This AccuSharp 001 sharpener is actually the best product of this kind I have tried. Despite only having the tungsten carbide blades, it actually gives a good knife a decent edge. I tried this product on cheap 440A stainless steel (no name Wally World type knives), 440HC stainless steel (typical Buck knife blade material, which is pretty decent steel), to high quality blade materials like high carbon 1095 steel (Ontario, SOG, some Cold Steel, Spyderco, and a few others) and VG-1 and VG-10 stainless steels (again, SOG, some Cold Steel, Spyderco, Benchmade, etc).Even on high quality steel blades, this sharpener only delivers a decent edge. Not a razor edge, but a decent edge. No offense to the previous reviewer, I like to use a knife for its intended purpose...to cut through something with MINIMAL effort...which cannot be done without at LEAST a razor edge. Whether I'm preparing dinner, to woodworking, etc etc, I simply must have a razor's edge at the least to work with, to make my work go easier.I have still found no better method that using high grit flat stones, followed by polishing with a leather strop and jeweler's rouge, to give me that super razor edge on good quality steel that I prefer to use.SO, if you only want a pretty decent edge to work with, then this product is, hands down, the best one to use to give you that decent edge. Just make sure you follow the instructions and only use very, very slight pressure, or you'll never get that decent edge.If what you want or need is a razor edge, or super razor edge, then this product will disappoint you. It all depends on what you want/need.But, again, as far as this type of sharpener goes, this is by far the best one I've used.

Best Knife Sharpener on the Market!!!!

Gerber 22-41121 Prodigy Fixed Blade Knife, BlackDesign cues for the new Prodigy were inspired by the award-winning LMF II, another knife engineered by Gerber's Jeff Freeman. The Prodigy is much smaller (9.75" overall length), but it certainly packs as much punch as its predecessor. The ergonomic over-molded rubber handles ensures a soft, comfortable, but secure grip in all conditions. Its also MIRS compliant. Much like the knife, the sheath is designed to live up to the task with a friction-release thumb lock for security and a list of non-detection features. Gerber Prodigy

by Hank from on 2010-08-20
The thing I like about this knife is that it can be used for multiple things: cutting, chopping, sawing, hammering, and as a window punch. I think the size is perfect(a little smaller than the LMF2). The sheath is okay. Its starting to split a little around the top edge. It only comes with one leg strap(if that matters to you) but I use my belt for the top and the one leg strap for the bottom anyways. I wish it had a spot on the back of the blade that could be used as a striker for a fire starter. Its durable, the handle is comfortable, its easy to sharpen, and I like the weight of it. If you're looking for something that is bigger, heavier, and that comes with a great sheath(Integrated sharpener, two leg staps, and a saftey knife), then go with the Gerber LMF2 for about $25-$35 more. Hope you found this helpful.

Man vs Wild Knife

by koiphish from on 2010-08-12
Bear Grylls from 'Man vs Wild' was using this knife in his Season 5 "Papua New Guinea" Episode and I believe I made it out in the trailer for the upcoming "Northern Territory, Australia" episode as well. If it is tough enough for his use, it can't be too bad a knife now can it? He was beating it to death cutting open a coconut for milk and food, cutting a hole in a banana tree for water and using a rock to hammer the knife through bamboo trees for bedding and a raft. I might give it a go up in the mountains to see how it holds up.

Great Alternative to the LMII

by Tyler from on 2010-08-10
The Prodigy is a strong, capable knife. Not only does it have the versatility of a partial serration, but it also has the strength of a full teng to back it up. I hike and backpack a good bit, and this knife has proven invaluable while on the trail. My friend has the larger LM II, but I prefer the more manageable Prodigy. Overall, the knife is a great value, and seems like it will outlast my need for it.

High quality, versatile, great feel

by DiCom1 from on 2010-07-26
The Gerber name has alway meant high quality when it comes to blades. The Prodigy definitely lives up to that reputation. I bought this knife to go on my MOLLE 2 vest, mounted upside down. The versatile sheath, MOLLE attach straps and firm sheath backing make this a perfect knife for my needs.

Good Value

by Steven D. Larson from Kennesaw, GA on 2010-06-24
Good solid knife for the price. Cut off the 2nd lower strap (handle)on the sheath, interfered with placing it back in. Weight and balance excellent.

Wonderful Design and Utility

by M. Woodward from VA on 2010-08-22
This assisted opening 3' blade knife is wonderful. I've given several away as gifts. No one mentions the intuitive position of the pocket clip. For right handers this allows the draw of the knife from the rim of the right pocket, the release of the safety if on, and the quick opening of the blade all in one motion. You don't have to turn the knife over or around or fiddle for the safety. It's also not too large to crowd the pocket or be uncomfortable full time carry. If you are a rightie and want a 3' blade knife GET THIS ONE.

Great Knife!

by Swagger B from on 2010-08-05
The Gerber Fast Draw is a really good knife. It has good grip and a nice fine edge. I recommend this knife over the Mini Fast Draw because this knife is a good size but anything smaller would be hard to get a firm grip on. The thumb stud might take some getting used to but once you get the hang of it its easy.(I can now open it with one hand)Great knife!

Great knife!

by D. Cohen from on 2010-06-24
Gerber is one of my favorite knifemakers, and although I've had some disappointments with them in the past, this knife is definitely not one of them. It's solidly build, the action is smooth (although the sound of it opening is not a satisfying click as I would like) and it feels great in the hand. I was wary at first of where the locking mechanism was, thinking it would be awkward, but it's actually quite natural. This knife has become my preferred everyday carry since I got it, and certainly for the price, it's an excellent value.

Good Easy Open Knife - Recommended!

by CFH from Blue Ridge Summit, PA USA on 2010-06-01
I bought my first Gerber "Fast Draw" knife to replace a lost Gerber "EZ Out" knife that I carried for almost 15 years, so they had a lot to live up to. While Amazon usually has the best prices (about 2/3 cheaper), I went to a big box "outfitter" store to try out some different models since knives are tools that you really have to hold to see if they are "right" for you. Here are my observations:Pros: + Easy to open one handed, the spring assist is very helpful + Positive lock, working to keep it closed and open, which is useful for keeping all of your fingers attached + Sharp blade right out of the package and it holds an edge nicely + Sturdy belt clipCons: - Somewhat "cheesy" looking grip, I almost passed it up without trying it out because it looked cheap to me - Mechanism was a little rough, but got much better with useWhile I doubt these knives will last as long as my last Gerber, they are very good tools for daily use in our small shop.Recommended!CFH

Good work knife

by Charles M. Cline from Oregon on 2010-05-28
I use this little knife every day as a beat um up work knife. The steel holds an edge pretty well. The scales are a little hard feeling in the hand but acceptable. I rated this tool as a 4 star only because the sliding lock tends to freeze up a little. Maybe it will perform better with extended use.

Very Impressive

by Nancy S. Zounes from San Diego, CA on 2010-09-04
Although these aren't the most intricate-looking knives, I was very impressed by their feel. They are nice, sturdy, and heavy-weight and stick into things pretty solidly.I have little experience with knife throwing, but it wasn't hard to learn with these. The only draw back is if you feel the blade is not sharp enough, it is difficult to sharpen with a file. It can be done, but it takes time.Overall, very impressed.

if i could i'd rate them 10 stars

by Patrick Dumas from SAN PEDRO, CA, US on 2010-09-02
these knifes came in 2 days. they arived in perfect condition and even after extensive use the still are in perfect condition. they came rasor sharp. once they even collided with another one of my knifes and it sliced a chunk of metal right off of the other knife's handle. they stick in the target every time ,even in hard wood. best purchase you'll ever make!

Great!

by David from on 2010-08-21
I'm very new to throwing knives and these are the first ones that I have perchaced. They preform very well using the no spin way of throwing. In two days of practice I can hit a tree from 15 or 20 feet. They are very well made and 8.5". I would recomend these to anyone who wants to try throwing knives.

Great Deal

by JamesBob from on 2010-08-16
The knives came as advertised in the picture, two knives and a sheath with belt loop. 9 inches long, with a 5 inch blade, made of decent metal. After an hours worth of them hitting the cement after bouncing off of wood (due to my not knowing what i am doing) the tip bent slightly. Obviously the metal is not military grade steel or anything but a quick whack with a hammer set it back perfectly and they still work good as new. They were/are cheap and definitely worth buying.

VERY NICE KNIVES! And...they come with the case!

I ordered these as a gift for my brother-in-law. They arrived VERY quickly and were better than expected! I had read the other reviews so I felt confident with my order, my only concern was as to whether or not they came with the nylon holder that is in the picture, there is no mention of it in the product description or in the other reviews. When the package was delivered I was pleased to find that it did indeed include the nylon case for storing the knives (2 separate slots so they don't rub on each other), it also has a belt loop hole so you can carry them around with you when in use. The knives themselves are wonderful! They are a great size, heavy, evenly weighted, and overall have a nice and sturdy appearance. I am very pleased with my purchase, so much so that I will be ordering a set for myself very soon!Note: Amazon offers this same set and it has free shipping included, look closely at the price...these end up being about a buck or more cheaper even with the shipping costs and they were shipped to me within about 3 days! I was hesitant to order from an outside company because Amazon is so good about fast shipping, but, I am glad that I chose this route and saved myself a few bucks :)

A fantastic book on the bowie knife and big knife fighting system.

by Joseph J. Truncale from Chicago, Il on 2010-01-27
Like all of this author's books, this one is well-written, with beautiful and clear drawings of each technique and tactic. There are some knife fighting experts who feel the bowie knife is the best combat knife ever developed. This can be debatable on this issue, but there is no doubt that if one must defend themselves with a knife, a big knife is preferable to a little knife. This great volume covers the various angles of slashing and stabbing in clear illustrations. In conclusion, if you are into knife use for combat and self-defense, this is a must have book for your collection. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Knife Handling and Knife defense for Law Enforcement official Manual, Use of the Monadnock Straight Baton, Tanto-Jutsu Manual, Wakizashi-Jutsu manual, Monadnock Defensive Tactics System(MDTS), PR-24 Police Baton Advanced Techniques, Martial Art Myths, Season of the Warrior, Never Trust a Politician).

bowie fighters delight

by David W. Decker from western NY on 2008-11-23
This book and the follow-up volume on advanced Bowie techniques are superb technical resources on the use of big fighting knives. The author gives a little historical background which teases us, making us want to know more. The techniques are described in clear text and with a series of terriffic drawings. The drawings themselves are worth the price of the books. I highly recommend Mr. McLemore's books for their graphics and his explanation of how to fight and defend with the famous American icon, Bowie knives.

Wait, the legal department has just handed me a memo. It seems that jokes about lawyers are out. Lawyers don't think they're funny, and no one else thinks they're jokes. You might think you are in trouble if the only weapon in a self-defense scenario is a flashlight, but a short length of rigid material can target soft body parts, joints, and other vital areas. Martial artist Phil Elmore shows how to choose a suitable flashlight, deploy it quickly, and use it to disable an attacker who thought you were unarmed. Better be sure those batteries are ever ready...From the dawn of humanity, weapons and tools have been a crucial part of human development. A weapon is a tool used to injure, incapacitate or even kill, but it is just that, a tool. Tools shape both our physical and mental worlds. The knife is the most ancient weapon in our arsenal, and a versatile tool. Extend it, and it's a sword, extend and curve the blade, and it's a sickle. Tools help feed us, shelter us, defend us and assure our survival. Mankind has always relied upon his wits, the opposable thumb, and the mastery of tools. I see eez estudied eez Agrippa (and Bridgman)

by L. M. Jordan from on 2007-03-17
In an age where the single shot pistol gave you at most one chance to dispatch your assailant, a reliable backup weapon was critical. The common man's choice was not the gentleman's small sword, but the big knife--the Bowie. BBKFS is a fascinating historical reconstruction of what big knife fighting of the early 19th century may have been like.McLemore has successfully documented the dynamics of the bout using a combination of still images (line drawings) and continuations (vectors) for feet, blade and hand. He also explores the possible history/origin of the big knife fighting technique--an adaptation of small sword fighting to an even shorter length weapon. His illustration skills are excellent. He is a very effective communicator in this medium. Even so, this material cries out for a companion dvd.The drawings and labeling are generally accurate, but there are a few mistakes which better editing would have caught.o p.73 (Timetable for death) "Subclavian" should be "Femoral"; on the Brachial Artery diagram, loss of consciousness should be 14 seconds (not 5 seconds), death 1 1/2 minutes (not 12 seconds); on the Radial Artery diagram, loss of consciousness should be 30 seconds (not 30 minutes). [This information is a restatement from Fairbairn's "Get Tough"]o p.94, p.95, p.121 (Angles of attack). Which drawing is correct? I had to conclude p.95, since most of the labeling on subsequent drawings is consistent with this figure.o p.101 (View of Angle 5 on the opponent) The leftmost drawing mistakenly labels this as angle 6.o p.102 (View of Angle 6 on the opponent) The leftmost drawing mistakenly labels this as angle 5.Grip, stance, guard, presentation, thrust, cut, parry, legwork--this book reads like a fencing manual. Add to that Mr. McLemore's skill with the conte crayon. Agrippa meets Bridgman.

An excellent training guide, offering insight into American fighting knives and knife fighting concepts.

by Michael Chesbro from Rainier, Washington USA on 2006-10-15
Bowie and Big-knife Fighting System begins with a brief history of the Bowie knife, and offers a bit of insight into the life of Jim Bowie himself. While the Bowie knife is perhaps not commonly carried in today's society, skill with this weapon can still serve one well. And... it should be noted that while a Bowie knife may not be a common sight on a man's belt any more, it is still quite possible for a man to have his Bowie knife close at hand.Bowie and Big-knife Fighting System shows the grips, holds, stances, guards, and presenting of the large knife. Then there is an excellent and detailed discussion of the proper application of both the thrust and the cut when using the Bowie knife in combat.Bowie and Big-knife Fighting System is well-illustrated with numerous drawings, demonstrating the proper application of the knife, and helping one visualize the instructions in the printed text.I found this book to be an excellent training guide, as well as offering an enjoyable insight into early American history and American fighting knives and knife fighting concepts.Highly Recommended!

Very handy mini tool

by Ken from Boston on 2010-07-06
I carry a Swiss Army knife with me frequently. This one is a little larger than the model I typically carry, but having a nail clipper has proven to be very useful.

Useful item, but wrong color

by Chocolate from on 2010-06-16
I ordered this knife because I have this knife and I really like it. I ordered one for my husband, but it was actually purple! It looks more blueish on the screen. I had to send it back. But, other than that it is a great tool to have.

Good quality, but a bit wider than you might expect

by A. Saunders from Virginia, USA on 2010-05-05
They never show side pictures of these type of knives because they are surprisingly wide. This may dissuade you from carrying it in your pocket. But, it's better than carrying a separate pen knife and nail clipper.Nail clippers are not as good/easy to use as a cheap pair of dedicated clippers, but, again, you get the multi use.

great little pocket tool!

by Samantha Forrest from on 2010-03-04
It is perfect! Every little tool I need in a small package. I especially like the nail clipper. It's the only pocket knife I have seen with a clipper built in.

Great fingernail clippers!

by Burning up in Texas from Texas on 2010-02-01
I own several pairs of these wonderfully designed pocket nail clippers. The design makes for a no-snag easy to carry package with a couple of extras. The clippers themselves have a very sharp and functional cutting edge. There is an easy to use nail file that is separate from the clippers and a nice small sized knife blade too! The scissors on this tool are a little strange with the serrations but they seem to cut very well and can cut through some pretty tough stuff! Since they are made by the Genuine Swiss Army Knife maker they have the Tweezers and a little plastic toothpick as well. The tweezers are actually very useful and seem to work pretty good for their small size. There is a no knife blade version of these clippers that will generally pass airport security. They have a small eyeglass sized flat screwdriver in place of the blade. My advice? Get one of each, and there is a great color assortment too!
